Environment Friendly

Silca System and Merx Pacific are dedicated to doing their part to ‘Go Green’

Common hardwood decking used in NZ including, kwila, teak, and vitex are directly sourced from the deforestation of Papua New Guinea and Amazon Rainforests . Unlike more sustainable pine used for structural building timbers, these hardwoods are from old established rainforest, take generations to grow and provide an abundant habitat for creatures large and small. To cut that down so one can have a deck seems absolutely barbaric in this day and age when we know the consequences!
It is time to change our thinking around what a “deck” or outdoor living area consists of. Silca System provides a new green option with a low maintenance, low environmental impact patio/deck produced from 100% recycled materials and we even plant trees too! Silca System uses 100% recycled polycarbonate in the production of its Silca System line of products. Merx Pacific and Silca System are committed to their continued effort of being environmentally friendly and using only recycled materials for their products.

Laying it down. Shown here solid 40mm concrete pavers with a geo textile cloth underlay. Using a Romex permeable grout will allow a level finish yet water to still drain, binds all paving together with zero movement.
P.S. dosn’t look like it here but this is 3m off the ground on timber joist!

Ever wonder how to finish the edge of a Silca System tiled deck? There are many options available, all up to your own design preferences. Here the customer has used the same porcelain tile as used on the deck covering as an upstand to cover the trimmer joist. Simple glue fix application. Smart and tidy and with a slight over lap of the top paver gives a nice coping type effect.
Stay tuned to find out more edge details in the coming posts. Porcelain tiles by @ssl_distributors. Construction by @landsmiths_nz
