Silca Grate

The Silca Grate is the key structural component to the Silca System.

The Silca Grate is the structural foundation of the Silca System, providing a rigid, permeable support surface for external paving finishes. Measuring 400 × 450 × 38mm, each grate screws directly to timber or aluminium framing, with strengthening ribs and hexagonal cells distributing imposed loads across the decking element and onto the supporting joists.

Pre-formed countersunk fixing points guide screw placement, while a secondary fixing row allows grates to be trimmed for installation between joists where additional clearance is required. The free-draining design promotes water drainage and airflow, while the grate’s integrated micro-flex accommodates movement within the supporting structure, helping reduce the risk of tile and grout disturbance.

Silca Grates can be used with natural stone, porcelain tiles, concrete pavers and other external paving finishes across timber joist, aluminium framing, adjustable pedestal and hybrid structural assemblies.

Silca Lock Connector

Lock Connectors secure each Silca Grate to the next on all four sides.

Lock Connectors are specifically designed for use with Silca Grates, interlocking adjoining grates on all four sides to create a strong, continuous decking element. Two connectors are used per side, equating to approximately 3.3 connectors per grate. This connection significantly increases rigidity, stability and consistency across the system, while also providing additional spot adhesion points during tile installation.

Installation is straightforward: push the connectors into the designated slots on each side of the grate, then tap firmly into place with a hammer.

Lock Connectors are specified for installations over floating frames, typically above membrane, where they provide important structural continuity between grates. For installations over a solid timber deck frame, they are not essential, but their use is still recommended to further improve the strength, stability and rigidity of the decking element.

Price $1.60 per connector (excl. GST). RRP. Trade rates available.
