Something a but different for Silca Grates, for context please read on.
Thanks to Kennedy, we are honoured to be a part of this installation.
STATEMENT:
Re-Stack is a modular furniture design that transforms into an outdoor artwork when not in use.
As an object, the tower represents strength, unity and coming together - qualities that are also echoed through the functionality of the furniture.
The 5-piece suite was designed for community; a family, a group of friends, even your neighbours, to come together, connect and socialize.
The 4 stools and small table encourage play, and can be assembled into multiple seating arrangements to suit your need. Even the ritual of un-stacking and re-stacking the units incentivizes participation and interaction between users.
The other important aspect to this work is the reuse of materials – in this case, it was salvaged fence palings, ironically, the very material that separates many of our urban neighbours.
I partnered up with ‘Reusable Resources’, who sponsored 80% of the materials, while the grates, made from recycled Polycarbonate ABS, were supplied by Silca System.
The design also incorporates a concept called a ‘technical cycle’, which means every component can be replaced and even reused in other applications over its life span.
